Co-Own or Guardian Home - What is It?

Without placing future breeding prospects into guardian or co-own homes, breeders must either keep a larger number of dogs or retire their mamas and papas. We love our dogs dearly as a part of our family. We have had to retire dogs because they for certain reasons would do better in a different home, and we are learning that that in most cases, the choice to retire/rehome is not right for our family and much too hard on our hearts. There are certain dogs that will stay with us their entire lives since my heart cannot take retiring my beloved foundation dogs.

We want all our Ghibli dogs to get time and attention and to avoid rehoming our retirees as much as possible. In our future generations, we will be looking for guardian homes and co-own homes to keep our breeding program moving forward and the puppies we produce placed into their forever homes right from the start.

Guardian or co-own homes gets the pick of the litter! Your Guardian or Co-own dog lives with you and is your dog forever! If you cannot keep your guardian or breeding committment for any reason, the contract fairly addresses that situation and you will NEVER have to give up your dog if you don't want to in case of moving or other unforeseen life changes.

We know our puppy buyers love their dogs as one of their family and it means much more to them as part of their family than it means to my breeding program.

Guardian dogs are used in my program if it passes all health testing and titling, which I pay for. When Guardian dogs return to Ghibli for their first litter, their purchase price is refunded and the guardian family is paid a guardian stipend each litter produced. I believe guardian family's should be fairly compensated for their commitment to helping me achieve my goals. In addition, if you are local to me, your dog can be groomed and boarded here for FREE! for the duration of the contract

If your dog doesn't mature to breeding quality, it is spayed or neutered and I sign off the registration papers.

Fair Co-Ownerships

Co-owners are trusted with my bred-bys under my mentorship. Each co-ownership is uniquely structured depending on the person's qualifications and experience. I do require health testing above and beyond CHIC standards and I do require some titling before the dog is bred. Ghibli Poodles believes in treating co-owners fairly. We have a title incentive program to reward our co-owners for going above and beyond the contract requirements. We also do not charge more for show prospects. I do not micromanage or control all breeding decisions. Instead I have fair and reasonable guidelines written into the contract regarding breeding decisions.
